Hop-On, Hop-Off Bus Miami

If you don’t have a car, have two days to spare, and want to visit places that are too far to go using public transportation, while learning a little about the city, this is the tour for you. We’ve done it in Miami, and in other cities and countries. It works.

It’s the famous English-style, double decker red bus and there’s one main company that offer the service.

Hop On Hop Off Bus Miami - Big Bus

How it works:
  • Purchase your ticket (see links below or ask your hotel’s concierge where to buy them)
  • Go to the nearest stop (ask your concierge to give you a map with the stops or to tell you where the closest one is)
  • Get on the bus
  • They’ll give you headphones so you can listen to the prerecorded guide in your language (most buses offer English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Portuguese and Russian)
  • When the bus arrives to a stop that interests you, you may get off and wander around.
  • There are three routes and you have access to all of them with the purchase of your ticket.
  • Check your map (you can get one on the bus) to learn when the next bus is coming. Most buses run every 30/40 minutes. The map will tell you the hour the last bus arrives to each particular stop. This is important because you don’t want to miss that one and be stranded.
  • Most services have different routes, often identified with colors (red route, blue route, etc) There will be a terminal/common stop where all these routes converge and you can switch to a different route. All routes are included in the price of your ticket.
  • Each loop (if you don’t get off the bus) lasts around 90 minutes.

Description from the Big Bus Tours website:

The hop-on, hop-off facility is a great benefit of the Big Bus sightseeing tour that enables you to explore all the sights at your leisure. There are over 40 locations where you can get off the bus to visit attractions and monuments or explore places of interest.

This facility gives you the freedom to plan your own itinerary, visit the places that interest you and to explore for as little or as long as you like. You can leave and return to the open-top buses as many times as you want within the validity period of your ticket.

You may choose to do one complete loop and then decide where to get off next time around. Or start straight away, leaving the bus wherever takes your fancy before returning to the stop to catch another bus later on.
